all things caffeinated

Posted in random on February 18, 2005 @ 9:36am

For the first time in a very long time, I made good coffee today. You must realise that when I say “good coffee“, especially when I say it in bold like that, I really mean that the coffee I made was outstandingly brilliant for home espresso. Like, forget Buongies or any other café, it was simply stunning. Me, my Carezza, my tamp and my Illy are now a fantastic quartet of the production of caffeinated liquid enjoyment.

The tamp is a new addition to my coffee fixation. Got it yesterday (Greg, you’re a legend!), and the two shots of Illy last night were wonderful. This morning I made four cups with the single basket, of which two were great and one was just a comparison (Vittoria preground Oro). Gotta cram the coffee into the portafilter (and nearly choke the poor Gaggia) but the result is crema-topped golden goodness.

Can you tell that I’m obsessed with fine coffee?

skill

I learned piano for many years. Some say I became skilled. I love to play. Yet I don’t make myself smile at what I play much any more. Tonight I’ve been smiling at Jamie Cullum’s work – first time I’ve even heard of him in Adelaide was this week, not 24 hours ago.

I should get me some more finger skill. And some jazz technique. And some impro ability. Money in currently < money out, so something has to go!

stuff

No, that’s not just a placeholder title demonstrating a complete lack of editorial thought. I’m speaking of a fixation which occurred to me today. Heaps of people are totally fixated on stuff.

What stuff am I fixated on [do I have/am I spending money on] currently? I’d say pianos, my car (it’s actually a wagon) and my computer. But I don’t really know if these things are a product of the things that the world says I should buy, or my own personal desire. And are they the best use of my hard earned part-time income? I should be a poor Uni student yet I’m accumulating stuff faster than my laptop screen accumulates fingerprints.

Something to ponder. What’s more important: stuff or skill? I’ll be pondering it…

Amazing. Now I have a blog. No commitment to regular updates, no promises about thrilling content. Just my blog.

Maybe just some comments, some occasional photos, perhaps some insightful memes. Or at least a couple of random fixations here and there…
